I
have developed several education based projects including
theremin workshops, outreach, therapuetic and music tuition.
Workshops

Photograph: Hypnotique recently led a theremin workshop
at the 'Arts for All' children's charity in Hackney, London.
This involved 50 children aged 2 - 12, getting them to
play the theremin and explaining how it works. |

What
could be more inspiring to the young or old than a chance
to try your hand at the only instrument in the world that
you can play in thin air? Theremin workshops are ideal
educational projects, identifying two key groups:
Children (aged 5 - 14)- the theremin is a great
way to create 'instant music' for children, regardless
of whether they can play another instrument. They are
fascinated by how it works, the fun sound and historic/scientific
examples can be worked into the workshop to get children
thinking about sensor technologies and how they were invented.
People with disabilities - the theremin can be
played with any part of the body - the head, the feet,
the arm- any object interacting within the field. It is
also weightless as no object needs to be lifted or struck.
This makes it an idea instrument for music therapy with
people with physical disabilities who are prevented from
playing a conventional instrument.
I have given numerous theremin demonstrations to the intrigued
and sceptical and specialising in 'show and try' demonstrations
which are suitable for pre-concert or informal exhibitions.
